"Rudraksha" combines Rudra (a name for Lord Shiva) and Aksha (tear/eye) — the beads are the dried seeds of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree, grown mainly in the Himalayan belt of Nepal and India. Each bead has natural clefts, or "faces" (Mukhi), running along its surface, and the number of faces determines which planet and deity it is associated with.
While tradition speaks of Rudraksha with up to 21 or more faces, only 1 to 14 Mukhi beads are commonly available and used in everyday practice — those are the ones covered by this calculator.
